The Museums
officers at Bolling Hall have organised a play for schoolchildren.
When they set out to find props for the play they came to
us to provide a "travellin chest" and some of it's
contents. We adapted the chest so that it have some sections
to keep smaller items in and to disguise a hidden compartment.
The play is set in the part of the "Tudor" period
when practising catholisicm was forbibben. The secret compartment
was to hide various "recusant" items.
The items that we
sourced are not when we normally sell but by using our exstensive
network of historical traders we were able to assemble the
following: Tinderbox, handmade beeswax candles, oak gall ink,
shirt, braes (underpants), ruff, pewter spoon, tankard and
plate, wooden bowl, eating knife, silver reliquery, a facsimile
of a 16thC play and a devitional book in latin.
