Set against
the historic backdrop of Kelmarsh
Hall in Northamptonshire, Festival
of History transports people through time in an action-packed
event that takes them from Roman Britain through to The Swinging
Sixties. Visitors are able to experience and explore the richness
and diversity of life in England throughout the last 2,000 years
through the re-enactments of spectacular battles and encampments,
traditional street markets, a fantastic line of up of live music,
dance, food, fashion, children's activities, historical fly-pasts
and an unrivalled celebrity lecture programme.
Each day
ends with a grand parade of more than 1,000 performers and the weekend
closes with the heart-stopping finale of the Knights' Tournament.
This year saw the first competitive medieval event for 530 years,
where modern-day knights battle for honours in archery, sword fighting
and full-contact jousting. There will be scores to settle
in 2006 and the final will again be played out at Kelmarsh.
