Romans
and Britons!
It is the 1st Century AD
and Rome is establishing the province of Britannia, not always with
the co-operation of the locals! Rufford is not yet a settlement,
but the ford is well known and frequently used. Meet Imperial legionary
and auxiliary soldiers and fearsome British warriors, compare armour
weapons and the different fighting techniques, and see the deadly
Roman Catapulta arrow-shooter in action! There's a living
history tented village and Roman marching camp to explore, with
crafts, period cooking and lots more to see. Junior (and not so
junior) visitors are invited to "join Queen Boudicca's army" and
find out what it was like for brave but poorly-armoured tribesmen
to attack the professional, heavily armoured legions of Rome. Presented
by Legio VIII Augusta MGV and The Vicus .
