The Colchester Chariot spectacular

Abbey Field, Colchester, Essex

Roman chariot racing,  gladiatorial combat and legionary soldiers - Medieval to WWII battles and other h istorical re-enactments - living history through the ages -  static displays and more!

Following the success of last year's event, we have been invited by Snake in the Grass Limited to arrange even more living history and re-enactments, to feature alongside their exciting chariot racing displays.

Enjoy a 3 part Roman show with armoured soldiers, ferocious gladiators and thrilling chariot racing, plus exciting battles from the medieval era, American Civil War and World War Two, whilst the finale features a spectacular grand parade of re-enactors through the ages. There's a superb line up from the elite of British re-enactment and living history from the ancient era to 1980s. In addition to ongoing living history displays within a massive encampment, there will be a chronological "time line" of history through individual displays within our own separate arena depicting the uniforms, weaponry and tactics of numerous historical eras.

Click for an excellent selection of photographs taken at the 2006 chariot show and Saturday's military festival by images2view .

Abbey Field is most conveniently reached via Circular Road North, off Mersea Road, Colchester, Essex.

If driving, enter Colchester via the A133 Colchester by-pass then follow the red & white  “Colchester Garrison” signs. These should direct you to the A134 (Southway/ Magdalen Street) running through the centre of the town. At the St. Botolph's Circus roundabout, turn up the B1025 Mersea Road and then right at the Colchester Garrison sign into Napier Road (which becomes Circular Road North).

The venue is about 10 minutes walk from the town centre and railway station.
