For King or Parliament?

Rufford Country Park, Ollerton, Nottinghamshire

Rufford and the Civil War

Which side would you have fought on during the English Civil War, Parliamentarian or - like Rufford's owner - Royalist? Make your mind up as the two sides present living history, pike drill, musket firing and other scenarios. Meet finely dressed officers and watch as their luncheon is served, and contrast them with the ordinary musketeers, pikemen and camp followers that make up the armies of the 1640s. Ask them why they fight, what cause they believe in, and who they think will win...and what happens to the estate and its owner if King Charles loses? Colourful, noisy and thought provoking by turns, this will be a great weekend to discover the ins and outs of one of the most important and turbulent eras of Britain's history. Presented by the English Civil War Society .
