ROYAL GUNPOWDER MILLS
MEDIEVAL EVENT

Beaulieu Drive, Waltham Abbey, Essex EN9 1JY

This features challenging battle combat, siege warfare, authentic living history encampment & archery event at a location comprising 175 acres of natural parkland and boasting 21 buildings of major historic importance. The site combines fascinating history, exciting science and beautiful surroundings.

For over 300 years the Royal Gunpowder Mills was cut off from its surroundings by its river boundaries and the secrecy of its work. Here, Nature has created a hidden world, unique landscape and thriving ecology. Visitors are able to explore a large section of this unique world from a network of boardwalks, bridges and footpaths.
Home to a huge variety of plants, birds and animals, two thirds of the site has been designated SSSI, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It offers the largest colony of Herons in Essex in addition to Muntjac deer, bats and otters. Event organised by the Medieval Siege Society.
