Blasts from the Past!

Cliveden, Taplow, Maidenhead, Buckinghamshire

A Classical Greek to WWII multi-period living history show.

Living history - re-enactments and skirmishes- entertainments - fascinating historical crafts - and much more!

Thousands of National Trust members and other visitors enjoyed our high-quality multi-period re-enactment, with around 300 performers presenting a continuous programme of displays.


Displays included arms, armour, weaponry and battle tactics of warriors and soldiers from the ancient Greeks to WWII; a multi-era living history encampment; Romans and Britons; medieval knights, men-at-arms, ladies, camp followers and working forge; C17th musketeers and pikemen; an American Civil War skirmish; WWI mounted skills; armour, uniforms and firepower through the ages demonstration, RAF fighter tactics in the Battle of Britain, and much more. Non-military displays included Cliveden's fashions through the ages in a two-part cat walk show, a chance to step into a C17th "Vermeer painting", Regency music and song, everyday life through the ages, cooking, clothing and crafts. Children's entertainments included Tudor puppet shows. The event kept visitors extremely busy all afternoon with a constant choice of displays and activities.

Admission: Adult£7.00, child £3.50, family £17.50.
