Delta Is Making It Easier to Use Miles for Upgrades

Delta is making it easier than ever to make your next flight comfortable.

The airline has announced that SkyMiles members can now use their miles instead of cash to make upgrades after purchasing a ticket. This is a change from Delta’s previous ticket-purchasing procedure, which only allowed upgrades using miles or cash during the transaction.

The option to use miles on seating upgrades after a transaction is helpful to consumers who change their minds often. It’s also good for SkyMiles members who have a low cash balance but have been accumulating miles via other means, including using Lyft or staying at an Airbnb.

To take advantage of the new option, simply log on to Delta.com and select an upgraded seat, including Delta Comfort+, First Class, Delta Premium Select or Delta One, as an add-on.

This option is available no matter where the original ticket was purchased and can be used on an entire trip or a single leg of the trip. But only flights operated by Delta are eligible and upgrades are based on availability.

Members can already redeem their miles for use in Delta Sky Clubs, award travel, gift cards, Delta Vacations and SkyMiles Experiences. This upgrade adds yet another option to the mix.
